I was reading a book on record production today and the author placed an interesting quote in the book in regards to “what kind of a person becomes a record producer.” It made a lot of sense to me considering the recent events in my life and I think it certainly applies more broadly than just to record producers.

“Going to work for a large company is like getting on a train. Are you going sixty miles an hour or is the train going sixty miles an hour and you’re just sitting still?” (Paul Getty)

The author, Richard James Burgess, continues on in his own words, “I realised some time back that I have two basic needs in life, autonomy and creativity (maybe they are wants but they sure feel like needs). I can survive extremely adverse conditions if those two qualities are actively present. Stress cannot easily grow in a field of autonomy. Boredom always melts in the fire of creativity.”

You know, there’s times when you read or hear something from someone else that describes your situation better than you can… I think the above holds true for me in this situation.
